Portfolio: Honorary Secretary

Karien Hutchison is an educational content specialist. She taught English in a High School for several years before transitioning to publishing in 2015. She worked for an international publishing company as part of their Africa content development team, before leaving to start her own publishing consultancy in 2020.

Karien’s small business, Hutch-in-Hand Content Boutique, focuses on the development of educational content for local and international markets. She is passionate about meaningful and accessible learning materials that place learners at the centre.

Karien has served as the Honorary Secretary of the Association of Southern African Indexers and Bibliographers since 2022 where she works to break down the silos that exist between various role-players in the publishing industry.

She lives in Villiersdorp, a small town in the mountainous winelands of South Africa, with her husband and three cats. She is an avid reader, and an even more avid collector of books.
